Train Manager - 3D renders

Train Manager is a browser and mobile game developed at Trophy Games, where I’ve been tasked with bringing some of our train content into the game through beauty render shots.

They are mostly purchased models, with some modeled from the ground up and some heavily modified to look like a different “type” than its original, that have been modified in ways to allow me to create realistic renders with my own texturing. The game was a “dirty release”, meaning we developed everything very fast to get it out asap, so the vast majority of these trains were done in a as quickly as possible, usually in 1-2 day per train (including their rusty version).

The complete 3D process then, except the purchasing, is done by me, from retopologizing, UV mapping, texturing, staging/light setup and rendering.

The images were rendered in a single angle to capture their profile, along with a duplicate render with applied rust patina. There are also environmental images where I’ve placed the trains in real stock photos to make them look as real as possible.

The logo graphics were done by my great team-mate Jesper Ezme Sorenssen, but the paintjobs in texturing were done and designed by me.

Programs used were Substance Painter, Maya and After Effects. Rendered in Arnold.

Below you can find a handful of the trains.

Siberia Pirola - shown in Dubrovnik light rail road

Northern Ridge TNR 4119, based on the General Electric AC4400

Scandi S3 - my personal favorite, based on the SJ X2000, this one modeled almost completely from the ground up.

Danavia X-Liner CX42, based on the Oresundtrain, also modeled almost completely from the ground up. My other personal “favorite” (love-hate relationship - I commute on this)

Transit Rapide Coureur

Danavia X-Liner CX42

Saember GPV-34

Transit Rapide Beucx (not to be confused with its Light-Rail cousin, Coureur)
